Azad A. Mayi was born in 1966 in the Kurdish village of Mayi. He fled to Mardin, Turkey with thousands of Kurds from Saddam Hussein’s regime in 1988. Mayi immigrated to the United States of America in 1992. He lives in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife Fagir and two sons, Amange and Ahva,  who have inspired him to write for children 

After leaving the University of Mousil in 1988, the author began writing poems, short stories, children’s stories, and articles for Kurdish magazines and newspapers.

This story is the first of Azad A. Mayi’s to be translated into English by Salih A. Mayi.

Salih is the author’s brother, who also fled to Turkey in 1988 and immigrated to the United States in 1992. Salih also lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife Hozan. He graduated from Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology.
