What is Kurdistan?

    Kurdistan is the land of the Kurds mostly mountinus area, located west of the continent of Asia. the land geographically united but politically what is divided between four countries. Kurdistan’s land is located on the south eastof Turkey west of Iran, and North and south east of Iraq and North of Syria. Its land mass approximately 530,000 square kilometers.  Kurdistan is a land rich in oil and mineral resources but it is the lest developed region in the above four countries, consequently, the Kurd derive there living from farming and shepherding. Kurdistan has tremendous quantity of water resources and it is called the heart of the region in water supply. its soul is fertile and rain fall is abundant .some of the cities: 


Kurdistan of Turkey with large kurdish population consist of: Diyar Bakir, Mardin, Urfa, Badlis, Batman, Wan, Malatya, Marash,  Jizeera,Mush, Erzinjan (Erzinacean) and Eruzurum.

Kurdistan of Iran: Kurmanshah, Khorramabad, Ilam, Qasri-Shirin, Senna, Mahabad, Bukan, Saqqiz and Orumiyah.

Kurdistan of Iraq: Kirkuk,Sulaimaniyah,Arbil, Dohuk, Halabja, Khanaqin, Mandali and Sinjar.

Kurdistan of Syria: Qamishly, Hasakeh, daiyrik, A' muda, Darabsiya, Ayn Diwar and Afin.



The Kurdish Population in the world:

 

In 2002 the United States estimated the total Kurdish population in the world to be 45 million Kurds as follows:

 

Kurdish population in Kurdistan:  Approximately 43 Million

            The following four countries have a population of 43 million Kurds who live in their Kurdistan regions in some of 

the most major populated cities:

 

Turkey: 20 Million

Iraq: 10 Million

Iran: 11 Million

Syria: 2 Million

 

The Kurdish Population outside Kurdistan: Approximately 3 Million

 

There are 1.5 Million Kurds in the following Countries:

Azerbaijan

Armenia

Georgia

Lebanon

    There are 2 Million Kurds in Europe, United States, and Canada. 
The Kurdish population in Europe in 2002 was a little more then 1.5 million, the Kurds immigrated to parts of Europe 
as refugees during and before the Iran/ Iraq war.  They live primarily in the countries of Germany, Holland, Sweden,
Norway
, Denmark, Italy, Greece, and Britain. 
 The Kurdish Population in North America as of 2002 is around 45,000 Kurds that reside in Canada and parts of United 
States
. The Kurds immigrated to these countries as refugees most of them are from Iraqi Kurdistan that arrived in 1992 after the Anfal Campaign. The Kurdish population in Canada is approximately 10,000 Kurdsthat live mainly in the cities of Toronto, Hamilton,
Kitchener
, London and other cities.The Kurdish population in the United States of America is approximately 35,000 Kurds that immigrated to the States in different time periods.  Some immigrated in the beginning of the20th Century as part of the first group of Kurdish people to immigrate to the State from Kurdistan of Turkey and Syria.  They settled mainly in the cities of Detroit and Chicago. They have been assimilated into U.S culture and there is little recorded information about them today.  The Kurds living in the United States are mostly concentrated in Nashville - Tennessee with about 12,000 Kurds, Dallas - Texas with about 4,000, and San Diego - California with about 4,000 Kurds, Virginia with about 3,000 Kurds. Kurdish people also live in    Seattle - Washington, New Haven - Connecticut, FargoNorth Dakota, St. Louis – Missouri, Binghamton and Buffalo – New York, Atlanta – Georgia, Lincoln – Nebraska, Los Angeles – California and other states likeSouth Dakota, Arizona, Maryland, Michigan , and Oregon.
