Kurdish Breast Health Awareness Video Premiere

Finally after months of anticipation, the premiere of the Kurdish Breast Health Awareness Video happened in a west Nashville theater on June 30, 2010. Hope is that this effort and message will become widespread soon in order to help those in the Kurdish community being affected by Breast Cancer every day.

The video was a mix of an earlier recording done in February of this year with a panel and community members, along with other footage that showed how Breast Cancer effected people and its prevention. The final product was a beautiful and tasteful Kurdish approach to educating their community.

It included in it how you can use diet and nutrition, monthly and yearly exams, and even breastfeeding your child as a means to improve your chances of avoiding this cancer. However, if your family has a history of it, you are at a higher risk.

Suad Abdullah, a Kurdish woman who was amongst those who started these efforts said “I believe having a video like this, that they can watch in the comfort of their home in their own native language can be of significant help. This subject is very intimate for KURDISH women. Through this video, I personaly was hoping to break the cultural taboos about such illness, and to let females know that it is ok to talk about it, and you are not alone.”
